So I just got done with my last final (!!!) and with it, the first year of my nursing program!!! Someone pointed out this morning that we only have 8 months left in the program. I find that fact very difficult to grasp. That means that ive been working 8 months so far. Its been a long 8 months. Maybe this next 8 months will go by faster. =]

My day was actually quite nice. I was supposed to be up for clinicals at 0400 this mornings, but every so slightly over slept… =/ So I was about 15 mins late rushing out the door this morning, but still made it to clinical on time. On my way thought, I have made it a thing that I listen to the christian music station in the area. I found that it just makes for a better day, a more calm one. Well, I feel like it does anyway, and I can definitely use more calmness in my days lately. My patient today was very interesting. In report we were told that he had been practically catatonic since he was admitted over the weekend, when we saw him he was alert and trying to communicate with us, but just wsnt quite able to do more than grunt. By the time we came back after lunch, he was sitting up and speaking to us. not more than a word or two, but still, a huge improvement. It was really cool watching my patient improve that much in just that short of time span. Then I came home and took a very long nap, and now the question is more nap?? or start knocking out paperwork??

In clinicals today, my patient scared the life out of me. I had just finished bathing her and changing her linens and blankets. I wasn’t out of the room 20 mins. I came back to for a Chemstick, and She wouldnt wake up. I flipped… to say the least.

The Primary nurse was no where to be found, and none of the other nurses seemed to be in any kind of hurry to figure out what was going on in the room with atleast 3 students an instructor and a tech trying to get this lady to wake up. I vaguely remember overhearing one of them telling another as I was practically running to find a glucometer that “its nothing… the students are freaking out again…”

Yeah I kinda get their point, we are students and tend to freak out and you kinda cant send everyone to see about what every student is freaking out about, but at the same time, we’re students. Dont leave us with a situation that could very well put the patient in danger and scar us for life when you know that you are ultimately responsible for what happens to that patient. It makes me so mad sometimes…
